Stainless Steel Wire Mesh is a wire mesh produced using a weaving technique specially adapted to the material. Type 304 is the most common stainless steel because of its good performance in a wide range of atmospheric environments and many corrosive media. In addition, the price of ss 304 mesh screen is moderate. So, if no special requirements about stainless steel grades, we assume that 304 stainless steel mesh screen is acceptable.
316 stainless steel possesses less chromium, more nickel and molybdenum than Type 304. Therefore, 316 stainless steel mesh screen provides better corrosion resistance. Moreover, its price is typically higher than 304 Stainless Steel Wire Cloth.
As we can see in the following chemical composition chart, 316L is the same as 316 except with lower carbon element. In other words, 316L carbon element is restricted to 0-0.03%, but below 0.08% is ok for 316. Therefore, they provide the same corrosion resistance. Moreover, lower carbon content makes 316L stainless steel wire mesh resistant sensitization during welding.
